DREAM Workplace assists a V.P. of Sales reinvent his approach to leadership and reconcile business relationships.
The President of a major heavy equipment dealership approached us about helping his VP of Sales make significant changes in his behavior and people skills in order to salvage his career. Devin was highly capable regarding the technical aspects of his job was very experienced in his industry. He was a diligent administrator stayed on top of his department’s numbers. However Devin’s people skills had a negative effect on just about everyone. He was abrasive and inflexible with customers. His peers, the VPs responsible for the firms other departments were constantly at odds with him. His direct reports, administrative support and the sales team that generated the firm’s sales revenue found him to be micro-managing, rigid and inflexible. After conducting 360 degree interviews throughout the company it was clearly evident that Devin was universally despised by nearly everyone within the company.
After gathering an overwhelming consensus of feedback which validated Devin’s problems, we confronted him with our evidence. Devin was completely surprised and had difficultly coming to grips with the gravity of his situation. Through our coaching process we were able to help him begin to make very clear and observable improvements in his behavior and interactions with virtually everyone. Devin’s turn around was so immediate and extensive that we were approached by numerous people from within the organization. The conversations went something like, “I do not know what you are doing to Devin but whatever it is… KEEP ON DOING IT!” We knew something big was happening when Devin’s administrative assistant approached us with tears in her eyes and said, “I was making plans to quit my job. Working with Devin had become impossible for me. But I have seen so much change in him during the short time you’ve been working with him that I’ve decided I actually like my job again. I actually like working with Devin.”
This coaching project was a huge success and had a major positive impact numerous people throughout the firm.
